2026 looks to be a pretty crazy year. I turned 50. I signed up to run my first marathon. I published some books and started a print-only zine. And now I’m starting a podcast and a mobile bookstore!
Yes, you read that right.
I haven’t really talked about either of them here, mostly because they’re still in the pre-production stages.
The Podcast
The podcast is The Spec-Fic Speakeasy and, as you might expect from the name, it’ll focus on speculative fiction (horror, sci-fi, and fantasy). I’ll be the primary host, but there’s a rotating cast of guest hosts that most of you will know. The first episode is slated for late July/early August and will be an interview with a feverishly good author. It’ll be a howl, I promise.
The Bookstore
Now for the biggie: I’m starting a mobile, horror-exclusive book and game shop called Strangleroot Books & Games (FB here). We’re located in Marion County, FL, and as far as I’ve been able to tell, we’ll be both the first horror-exclusive bookstore and the first mobile horror bookstore in North-Central Florida.
I am SUPER stoked about this! To get the bookstore on the road (ugh, I know!), I’ll be running a GoFundMe here at some point. I’ll announce it through the newsletter when I do. If you can donate, that would be ah-mazing. But even if you can’t contribute financially, sharing it with other people you know is HUGE.
Anyway, just a quick update 🙂 I’ll have more info about both the podcast and the bookstore soon.
